I've blogged about this before - an amazing program called A Place in the World, a year-long curriculum that guides two groups of 100 high-school students from diverse backgrounds around the Bay Area through a series of international films that address universal coming-of-age issues.
For three years in a row, I've gone to California to screen The Education of Shelby Knox and talk to the students about sex education, activism, feminism, and anything else they want to bring up. This year's group was awesome - I am continually reminded as I speak to young people how much society shortchanges itself by viewing teens as less than insightful, rational and productive human beings.
