Our unhappiness is all in our heads! (Yup, still dealing with that one in 2008)
Posted by Shelby Knox at 6:25 PMCNN's glib and sarcastic Jack Cafferty reported on a study from the Journal of Psychological Science that claims conservatives are happier than liberals because conservatives are better able to rationalize inequalities in society.
Funny, liberals are more tortured by morality than conservatives. Ok. But the report goes on:
"There is no reason to think that the effects we have identified here are unique
to economic forms of inequality," the researchers write. "Research suggests that
highly egalitarian women (read: feminists) are less happy in their
marriages compared with their more traditional counterparts, apparently because
they are more troubled by disparities in domestic labor."
Once again standing up for our humanity makes us radical outliers as compared to our "more traditional" counterparts who, even though they are still doing 90% of the housework, are happier people overall - simply because they haven't been exposed to feminism. Betty Friedan is rolling in her grave.
And to complete America's backslide to the 1950's, Phyllis Schlafly is getting an honorary doctorate this week. Yes, the woman who said of marital rape: "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don’t think you can call it rape." Miss S. also campaigned against the Equal Rights Amendment, started the Eagle Forum, has published numerous scary books and articles and yet still offers this sage, hypocrisy-laced warning to all of us unhappy feminists: “The flight from the home is a flight from yourself, from responsibility, from the nature of woman, in pursuit of false hopes and fading illusions."
I am off now to stew in my unhappiness and pursue some false hopes by getting a bit of writing done. Then I am burning my damn bra.
